Venice Jewish Ghetto, Venice

Venice Jewish Ghetto, Venice
A walk to discover this very old section of the city. The term "ghetto" is derived from a local Venetian dialect and relates to foundries and the metal casting industry. Here, in 1516, at the behest of the Republic of Venice, Jews were literally locked inside the gates in the evening. We will walk around to discover what is nowadays, the center of Jewish life in Venice. The area comprises several synagogues, divided by ethnicity, a museum, a kosher restaurant and a nursing home for Jewish people.
