Situated near the Aachen marketplace, International Newspaper Museum is dedicated to the newspaper world and press history and was founded by Oskar von Forckenbeck. This unique museum on Pontstraße will impress you by its rich collection of related exhibits, which includes more than 200.000 German and international issues. Here you will find historical publications, old documents and other press products. Make a historical journey and find out more about the newspaper world from its early days to the present.

Couven Museum is another cultural venue in Aachen that can be found on Hühnermarkt. It displays vast collections, including high quality furniture, Dutch ceramic tiles, porcelain, kitchen appliances, embossed ornaments, silverware, coffee pots, fine chimney pieces, Italian stucco works, etc. The museum highlights the style of daily living in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1662 this building housed a pharmacy, where herbs and chocolate were produced and sold. The museum is closed on Mondays.

The Aachen Cathedral Treasury or Domschatzkammer houses one of the most significant church treasuries of Europe. Its unique collection includes sacred treasures of the Aachen Cathedral, dating back to Classical, Carolingian, Ottonian, Hohenstaufen and Gothic eras. Here you will find Catholic reliquaries, Charlemagne artifacts, silver, objects for liturgy and the occasion of a coronation, including the Lothar Cross (c. 1000) and the so-called Aachen Altar (1520). Many precious pictures and sculptures of the Virgin Mary are also on display.

Aachen City Archive was founded in 1884 and is situated on Fischmarkt, in the centre of the city. It is a city’s archive, were you can find the main documents of Aachen, publications, books, copies, volumes and ancient texts related to the history of Aachen and Germany. It is closed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Suermondt Ludwig Museum is housed in the "Villa Cassalette" on Wilhelmstraße since 1901. Dedicated to art, the museum displays outstanding collections from the Classical period to the present. It has portraits and sculptures from the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, German and international paintings of the 17th century, engravings, tapestries, stained glass, silverware, antiquities, craft objects, works of ancient Greek art, contemporary art and much more.
