Statue of Michel Paccard

3) Statue of Michel Paccard (must see)

Michel Gabriel Paccard, born in Chamonix, was a doctor and mountain climber. Located in the center of town, his statue is an historical landmark. Dedicated to his ascent of Mont Blanc with his partner Jaque Balmat in 1786, it was a memorable achievement in the history of mountaineering.

The Alpine Museum will take you back to 18th century Chamonix. Here you can witness the history of winter sports and its influence on the city’s development, as well as exhibitions dedicated to the Alps. Temporary exhibitions are also rotated on a regular basis.

The War Memorial is a monument that commemorates those who died defending France during World War I. It is a tall statue of a soldier set on a large stone located on a small square in the center of Chamonix.
