East Village Arts District is located on the east side of downtown Long Beach and is teeming with art venues, galleries and different shops. Walking in this popular arts neighborhood, you will find the city's most eclectic boutiques, unique retailers and shops. The district is home to a number of independent stores, where you will find everything you want, from designer clothes and specialty sneakers to old books and antique furniture. Every Saturday this area hosts an organic Farmer's Market.

Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA)

2) Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) (must see)

The Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) was founded in 1996. MoLAA is the only museum in the United States exclusively dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American art. Since its inception, MoLAA has doubled its size, added a 15,000 sq. ft. sculpture garden and expanded its permanent collection. The museum offers a significant permanent collection as well as educational and cultural programs to its visitors.

The museum is located in the city’s rapidly developing East Village Arts District. Between 1913 and 1918, the site that the museum now occupies was the home of the Balboa Amusement Producing Company. The building was renovated. The high vaulted ceilings and beautiful wooden floors were perfectly suited for the Museum of Latin American Art.

Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum is situated in the East Village Arts District, on Alamitos Avenue. This cultural venue was founded to integrate and preserve the diverse cultures of the Pacific Islands, including Samoans, Fijian, Marshallese, Tongan, Hawaiian, etc. The museum focuses on Micronesia and houses a permanent collection, where you will find paintings, murals, carvings, sculptures, textiles, jewelry and other objects of Pacific Island ethnic art. The museum also offers educational programs, rotating exhibits and living arts.

4) Art Theatre of Long Beach

Art Theatre of Long Beach is another wonderful cultural venue in the city. Conveniently located on East Fourth Street, it is considered the number one independent theater in the Los Angeles area. Originally it started as a movie theatre with a pipe organ and orchestra pit in 1924. Later this cultural venue became popular and famous for its huge collection of the most imaginative, animated and foreign language films as well as documentaries. Long Beach Museum of Art was established in 1950 and can be found on East Ocean Boulevard. The museum is housed in a historic Elizabeth Milbank Anderson house, dating to 1912.
