1) Cuddy Family Midtown Park

The Cuddy Family Park in the center of midtown is a nice place for outdoor recreation for both kids and adults. The park exists since 1984, and since then has been renovated many times. Now it is divided into areas for a variety of activities, including an ice-skating rink, a fountain, an amphitheater and picnic tables. In summer children can enjoy the kayak boating experience. The park is named in honour of the Cuddy family which in 2000, donated funds to help improve the park.

2) Z.J. Loussac Library

The Main Branch of the Z.J. Loussac Library is a modern building located in the midtown area of Anchorage. It is very laid-out and organized, with lots of reference desks and friendly staff to help you find your way around. Among the facilities of the library there is the Wilda Marston Theatre, Public Conference Room, Ann Stevens Room for conferences, seminars and meetings, a children's section with regular storytelling evenings and a cozy coffee shop. Outside the library there is an amazing fountain that transforms into a dynamic ice sculpture in wintertime.

3) Alaska Heritage Library and Museum (must see)

Located at Wells Fargo in the midtown area of Anchorage, Alaska Heritage Library and Museum is one the the largest private collections of Alaskan handcrafted antiques and artwork. The museum had opened its doors for visitors for the first time in 1968 with the help of the National Bank of Alaska. Since then it has gathered an astonishing collection that features a real, full-size Bering Sea kayak, traditional Native Alaskan clothing and everyday items, a 46-troy-ounce gold nugget, amazing paintings and whale carvings. The library features a fascinating archive of rare and old books. The museum is open from Monday to Friday and there is no admission fee.

Alaska Sausage and Seafood is well-known around Anchorage for its quality products and great service. The store offers a large choice of fresh seafood and meat. Its most famous specialties are smoked salmon and reindeer meat sausages. Alaska Sausage and Seafood works hard to preserve traditional recipes and its hand-made sausages can please any gourmet. If you prefer a more laid-back atmosphere, you are invited to dine in the grill area. Make sure to taste the local selection of home-brewed beer. The legendary Chilkoot Charlie's or simply Koot's bar is one of the wildest nightspots in Anchorage. Created in 1970, the bar has been expanded since then and now includes 11 bar areas and 3 dance floors, each with its unique atmosphere and music from jazz to hip-hop. Check out the sawdust-covered floor of the oldest South Long Bar, the open-air Deck in summertime or the rocking North Side area. At Koot's there's live music every day, as local and international bands and Djs rock the stage. Throughout the years of its existence, this primary music venue has hosted bands like Aerosmith, The Stranglers, Lynard Skynard and many more.
