Following its thirtieth year open as a cult favorite of pubs in the city, the Blue Shell was refurbished into a club that has made its mark on Cologne’s nightlife scene. From Wednesday through Saturdays its DJs offer up a diverse blend of rock, punk, and indie sounds to its guests. Having a long history and well-known as a popular hangout for touring bands, the Blue Shell also attracts live music to its stage and fatures special events such as album release parties and post-show events with famous names including Blur and the Black Crowes. The Blue Shell attracts a hip and artsy crowd and also hosts special events such as poetry slams.

The city’s oldest student club, Das Ding features regularly low prices on its drink and as well offers an assortment of great drink specials throughout the week such as free beer on Tuesdays. Although Student IDs are not required to get in, the crowd allowed inside tends to be in the college age range. A range of themed evenings are featured throughout the week at Das Ding, and the entertainment includes mainly pop and the hippest chart-topping music. Because of its extremely low price drinks and diverse themes, Das Ding attracts a large crowd from Tuesday through Saturday night and keeps the party going until 5 AM.

Opening its doors in 2004, Shepheard is a colonial style bar situated on Rathenau Square. Shepheard offers fine dining and a range of elegant cocktails and has received several local awards and garnered international acclaim for them as well. This intimate cocktail bar often attracts a sizeable crowd to sample its world famous cocktails, including classic ones as well as original recipes.
