1) Jardim da Avenida Sá da Bandeira

Jardim da Avenida Sá da Bandeira is a garden along the avenue Sá da Bandeira. There are tall palm trees and some rare exotic trees, fountains and some monuments; among them is a monument dedicated to the fighters of the Great War that stands in the centre of the garden. The garden is also renowned for its variety of statues.

Torre d'Anto is a Medieval tower built in the Medieval defensive wall of Coimbra and is one of the most popular tourist attractions. It remained as a mark of the military past of the old town. In the 19th century the poet Antonio Nobre lived there and the tower bears his name. The tower is square-shaped. You will see the intact stone exterior of the tower, narrow spiral staircase, the arched entrance door and windows of the facades. The Torre de Anto now houses the art gallery. You can see important artifacts and antique pieces which have been collected over the years.

Santa Cruz Café was opened in 1923 on May 8, as the cafe is built on Square 8 May. It is located in one of the most beautiful churches of Coimbra Santa Cruz, in its auxiliary chapel, that dates back to 1530, and this makes it a unique and must visit cafe in Coimbra. It is also the most famous cafe not only in Coimbra, but in all of northern Portugal. The architecture of the cafe is amazing due to its location. The ceilings are high and there are marble decorations and vaulted stone supporters. It is always crowded there during the day and night.

Center of Visual Arts (Centro de Artes Visuais) or CAV in abbreviation, is a museum where you can see some of the best contemporary photography and modern video exhibitions. CAV opened rather recently, in 2003. It resides in a historic place. The whitewashed cloister where exhibitions take place served as a prison in the days of the Spanish Inquisition.

Palace of Justice is situated on Sofia street, the most traditional street in the low part of Coimbra, lined with old buildings. Palace of Justice represents classical architecture so common on this street. At one point it was a school, then in the 16th century it was a Noble's residence, and now it is the Palace of Justice since 1924.

The Conchada Cemetery (Cemitério da Conchada) is located in the Conchada Neighborhood of Coimbra that is the new residential area. This cemetery was the 1st municipal cemetery that dates back to 1860. There are graves of important families of Coimbra. You will see many graves that are wonderful works of art. Among the most monumental is the large grave of Counts of Ameal. There are statues made by outstanding local Coimbra artists. There is a beautiful church in the area of the cemetery as well.
