Saint Clemens Church

1) Saint Clemens Church

Saint Clemens Church (Sint Clemenskerk) is a Catholic church constructed in 1872 in the heart of the Nuenen village. The architect who worked on the design of the church was Carl Weber and he executed the structure in Neo-Gothic style. The base of the church is cross-figured, like most of the churches in the area. The facade of the building is an octagonal tower which reaches almost sixty meters. The pride of the present religious site are the ancient bells, the biggest ones dating from 1490 year and weighing in at 1420 kilograms. In 1972, when the church celebrated its 100th anniversary, it was exposed to some grand restorational works. The interior is ornate with a splendid altar, saints' statues and two organs.
Het Klooster Theatre

2) Het Klooster Theatre

Het Klooster (monastery in Dutch) is a former monastery located in the center of the Nuenen village, built in 1887 in Neo-Renaissance style with certain Gothic features. Today, Het Klooster is used as the village theater. Numerous parties and performances are organized in the theatre, which has 285 seats. The exterior of the construction is very attractive due to several old elements that remained from the monastery, like the cross above the roof and the statue of the saint above the entrance. Het Klooster has a bar.
Nuenen Central Park

3) Nuenen Central Park

Nuenen Central Park is an oasis of grass with benches, a nice pond, a bridge and a pretty fountain located in the center of the village. It is surrounded by a multitude of cafes and bars, one of them named in honour of Van Gogh. The pearl of the park is a statue of the grand painter, opened to the public in 1984. The project belongs to Klaas van Rosmalen. The sculptor intended to reflect the natural state of Vincent Van Gogh as he used to walk through the village in search of inspiration for his works.
Van Gogh House

4) Van Gogh House

The Van Gogh House, which was once a parsonage, is the former house of Vincent Van Gogh's parents and was called so because the artist's father used to be the local pastor. It was built in 1764. The brilliant painter used to live here between December 1883 and November 1885. In the back yard of the house sits Van Gogh's studio, where he created a huge number of famous works representing sequences of Nuenen village life. His parents' house is featured in one of his paintings as well. The house is a two-storey building, built in plain style like most of the residential structures created in that period.
Van Gogh Monument

5) Van Gogh Monument

The present monument was created in honour of world renowned artist Vincent Van Gogh. The author of the work was Hildo Krop - a talented Dutch sculptor and decorative artist. The monument was erected in 1932. It depicts a plain dark rock on a round stand. In the upper part of the monument there is a hand-sized, engraved figure of a golden sun. This is the first monument in the country that is dedicated to the artist.
Van Gogh Church

6) Van Gogh Church

The Van Gogh Church is a reformed Protestant church, very much related to the artist's biography. Theo, Van Gogh's father, was a pastor in the present church. The artist and his brother, also Vincent, were both christened in this church. In early 1884, Vincent Van Gogh created an oil painting representing the present church. He named it "Congregation Leaving the Reformed Church in Nuenen" and dedicated it to his mother. The painting was exposed in the Amsterdam Museum of Van Gogh for a long time, until 2002, when it was stolen.
The Village Farm Weverkeshof

7) The Village Farm Weverkeshof

The Village Farm Weverkeshof is a scenic heaven for families with children. It was opened approximately twenty-five years ago and has since received an incredible number of visitors, not indifferent to animals and all that pertains to farm life. Although it suffered difficult times, Weverkeshov is still working and enlightening visitors' hearts. It is located next to a beautiful duck pond and its total area is about two hectares. There are barns for the most diverse domestic animals, namely goats, sheep, donkeys and pigs. There are also some wild animals, for example the two bears - Hannes and Tinus. The birds residing on the farm are mostly chickens, turkeys and peacocks. There is a shop and a cafe. The farm is open for visitors from Monday to Friday 09.00 to 17.00, with a pause from 12.00 to 14.00, and on weekends from 09.00 to 17.00 every hour.
Roosdonck Windmill

8) Roosdonck Windmill

The Roosdonck Windmill, a working mill, is one of the most important symbols of Nuenen. It was constructed in late 1884 by Anthony of Himbergen and has a very rich history. It suffered a series of demolitions and restoration works throughout its existence. It was also bought and sold several times. The windmill reaches a height of up to twenty six meters. The mill is present in seven of the famous Vincent Van Gogh paintings, thus bearing testimony to its beauty and importance. At present, the interior of the mill houses a shop that sells different sorts of flour. Roosdonck is open on Saturdays from 10.00 to 15.00 and by appointment.
