Cape Promthep LightHouse

1) Cape Promthep LightHouse

The Promthep Cape or Laem Promthep is the rocky headland located in the southern area of the island of Phuket. The Cape is locally referred to as “God’s Cape” since “Prom” is a Hindu God symbolizing purity and “Thep” is God in Thai. This hill, jutting out into the sea is a paradise for artists, photographers and all the nature lovers. On top of the hill is a lighthouse and a shrine (Buddhist altar) which has several elephant statues and carvings. Near the parking lot stores sell items which are made out of shells, shirts, souvenirs, hats, etc. You can also find restaurants and coffee shops at the Promthep Cape.

A walk through the rocky path all the way till the end of the Cape is a great experience for one and all but must not be taken by the light-hearted. The Promthep lighthouse is located on this rocky hill and is at a height of 200 feet from the sea level. The spectacular view of the sunset, the swathes of tropical lushness and the cycloramic view of the southern island can be captured very well from the top of the lighthouse. Along with a viewing platform the Promthep lighthouse also called the Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse houses a nautical museum.
Brahma Shrine

2) Brahma Shrine

A circular Brahma Shrine is located at Cape Promthep. The shrine is decorated with a multitude of carved elephants, which symbolise longevity and thanksgiving. For the local people, the shrine is a sacred place of worship. If you would like to pray at the shrine, you must remove your shoes; otherwise, you will not be allowed to approach. You can purchase joss sticks (incense sticks) and flowers, and then place them near the Brahma. Because the shrine is sacred to the Thai people, you must be careful of your behaviour.
Promthep Viewpoint

3) Promthep Viewpoint

The Promthep Viewpoint is located near the shrine and affords you the opportunity to enjoy the lovely views of the bay, the sea, and the islands, especially Phi Phi, Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi. The South Coast and the Andaman Sea can be photographed from here, and sunset is a particularly beautiful time of day at the viewpoint. You can find souvenir and handicraft shops nearby.
Ya Nui Beach

4) Ya Nui Beach

Ya Nui Beach, approximately 300 metres long, is a lovely spot to relax in a lounge chair. The sand is soft and "decorated" with colourful seashells. If you prefer a faster pace, sports and entertainment options are available, like fishing, snorkeling in the nearby small reef, kayaking, sailing, and swimming.
Windmill Viewpoint

5) Windmill Viewpoint

The Ya Nui View Point or the Windmill viewpoint is located on the island near the Promthep Cape and has a collection of wind turbines that generate power for the town of Phuket. The beauty of the sea, sun and sand at the Nai Harn and Ya Nui beaches can be captured from this spectacular viewpoint. A view of the deep turquoise sea, white sands and the seasonal yachts on these beaches is the one that words can’t explain. A shortcut to the rocks through the golden grass takes you to a picturesque place that is perfect for a day of fishing. One can also view another island off the coast of Phuket, called the Koh Man. At the viewpoint one can only find a “Sala” for shade- a house with just a roof, no walls and a parking lot. On sunny days one can also find drink vendors at the view point. A bike or car ride through the windy and steep roads is ideal to reach here. However, a walk on the dirt road leading to the point, through the trees usually gives the visitor an unusual and beautiful view of the Nai Harn beach.

The panoramic view of the Phuket town from this point is worth capturing although the view is likely to last longer in your memory than on any device.
Nai Harn Beach

6) Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn Beach is popular with the locals, so you will have an opportunity to chat with them and make some new Thai acquaintances. Despite its popularity with local residents, the beach is not very crowded, so it is an excellent spot to relax your mind, body, and soul in the sunlight. You can swim as well, or enjoy a coffee or meal break to re-energize yourself for your continued explorations of Phuket!
