Riverwalk Church of Christ

1) Riverwalk Church of Christ

The Riverwalk Church of Christ was created by people who later formed this permanent site. The establishment of the church began in 1971. The name of the location symbolizes the imaginary illustration of water the way it was described in many holy books. It is also located close to the Arkansas River. The Riverwalk Church of Christ is located downtown, this being an advantage in helping poor people from Wichita and other cities.

2) First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church was established between 1910 and 1912. It is located downtown on Broadway Street and it is remarkable given its unusual shape. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

3) Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the first Catholic Church in Wichita. It was designed in 1909 by Emmanuel Masqerey and represents Basilica architectural style. The church was dedicated in 1912; this is evidenced by the row of pillars at the main entrance. The interior is large and there are four different colors of sandstone. The stained-glass windows recall the prophet Isaiah. The exterior of the building was renovated but the details of its decoration did not change. There is also a religious education center and a former school canteen providing children with the possibility of learning.

4) St. John's Episcopal Church

St. John's Episcopal Church is one of the oldest churches in Wichita. It is located downtown but people come not only from the city but also from the periphery. The construction of the church began in 1887 and in 1893 it was already completed, featuring prominent Romanesque style. First United Methodist Church

5) First United Methodist Church

The United Methodist Church was constructed in 1968. Its popularity is not only related to the fact that it is located in the city center but also because of its original shape. There is a symbol on the exterior of the structure depicting a cross bonded to a dual flame. The symbol connects the church to the Holy Spirit, God and the Trinity.

First Baptist Church

6) First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church is an old church, established in 1872. It is a significant building for Wichita, considering its religious and architectural value. Although lacking the prominent features of a church, the building itself features a Romanesque facade with a remarkable rose window decorating the facade. The interior is very large, making the sounds of the choir seem more pronounced. There are three main entrances that are united and decorated by a huge arch that covers almost the entire facade of the church. The arch also includes a huge circular window adorned with stone, from which the whole structure is made.

St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church

7) St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church

The Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church was established between 1902 and 1905. The original building was constructed in 1886 and was named the Saint Boniface Parish. The church is considered the most unique building in Wichita, as far as the exterior and interior go. It features a mixture of Georgian style, characteristic of the East Coast, and some elements of Baroque (note the dome), yet the shape clearly suggests a Neo-Gothic structure. The windows are made of stained glass and the technique that was used is very old - this is why they cannot be changed. During the early years, the church was used as a pointer for local aviators.
