Chiesa di San Francesco

1) Chiesa di San Francesco (must see)

The Church of Saint Francesco dates back to the 8th century, but it has since been reconstructed. In the 14th century the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style and dedicated to the Franciscan friars. Next to the church are the monastery and the cloister, also dedicated to San Francesco. The cloister is an amazing mix of many architectural styles and is a sight to behold.
Chiesa di Sant'Antonino

2) Chiesa di Sant'Antonino (must see)

The Church of Saint Antonino was erected in the 11th century in the place of a former oratory. The basilica has a mix of architectural elements, like the columns that were probably taken from a Roman villa, and the south portal that was built in the Byzantine-Romanesque style. The crypt contains some small pictures dating from the 18th century. All these elements together make the church unique and attractive.
Chiesa e Monastero di S.Maria Delle Grazie

3) Chiesa e Monastero di S.Maria Delle Grazie

The church and the monastery of Saint Maria delle Grazie dates back to the 16th century, when Bernardina Donnorso expressed her will to build them. Later a cloister of Dominican nuns was annexed. The majolica floor is notable for its rich flower ornaments. The only nave of the church houses some valuable paintings, from the 16th to the 18th centuries, created by southern Italian painters.
Chiesa Del Rosario

4) Chiesa Del Rosario

The Church of Rosario, also known as The Church of the Santi Felice e Baccolo, is considered to be one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Sorrento. It is a very important historic place, as it functioned as the Cathedral of Sorrento from the 12th to the 15th centuries.
Congregazione Dei Servi Di Maria

5) Congregazione Dei Servi Di Maria

The Church of Mary’s Servants is the seat of the Congregation of Mary's Servants. It was built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. Here you can see a wooden statue of Christ, crafted by an unknown artist, as well as two unique wooden statues of Madonna and Saint Joseph, dating back to the 15th century.
Cattedrale di Sorrento

6) Cattedrale di Sorrento (must see)

The Cathedral of Sorrento dates back to the 15th century and was built in the Romanesque style. It has a great collection of pieces made by artists of the Neapolitan School, dating back to the 18th century. The church holds the baptistery of Turquato Tasso, who was christened here. It was restored in 1933. Other valuable pieces include the marble archiepiscopal throne, dating back to 1573, and the ceiling, which is ornamented with beautiful paintings.
Church of Carmine

7) Church of Carmine (must see)

The Church of Carmine likely dates back to 240-230 A.D., around the start of the persecutions against Christians in Sorrento. At the end of the 16th century the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style. Here you can see the image of Madonna, which is a duplicate of the Vergine Bruna of Naples, as well as a lot of beautiful artwork from the 17th and 18th centuries.
