1) Museo de Historia Natural

Museo de Historia Natural is surrounded by a small zoo, golf course, and camping area. The museum displays a variety of animal specimens and is especially known for its collection of insects, including a rare butterfly with a 274 mm wing. The museum was once the country home of the former president of Paraguay, Carlos Antonio López. In addition to its historical importance, the house is representative of architectural design in the 1840s. From downtown Asuncion, take the 44-B bus from Oliva and 15 de Agosto Streets. This bus goes right by the entrance to the museum.
Jardín Botánico y Zoológico

2) Jardín Botánico y Zoológico (must see)

The Municipality of Asuncion acquired Jardín Botánico y Zoológico in 1947. The botanical garden has a rich collection of animals, including mammals, reptiles and insects native to Paraguay. In addition to a stunning array of plants, the garden is also home to a small zoo and the country house of former President Carlos Lopez. The house has been transformed into a museum, which focuses on Asuncion's wildlife, history and ethnology.
Iglesia Santisima Trinidad

3) Iglesia Santisima Trinidad (must see)

Iglesia Santisima Trinidad was built in 1854 under the orders of President Carlos Lopez. Designed and constructed by architect Alejandro Italian Ravizza, the building has a magnificent facade. The church served as a private chapel for the Lopez family, and upon the death of Don Carlos, it was made a Cultural Heritage Site. Inside you can admire the Franciscan altarpieces and the beautifully painted ceiling.

Cine & Bar Canisa is a cinema and bar located in Asuncion's Trinity neighborhood. Don José Canis first opened the cinema in 1925, and it was visited by many intellectuals of the era. Distinguished guests included Moses Bertoni, Director of the Agricultural School, José Darío Gómez Serrato, and many others.

5) Centro Paraguayo Japonés

Centro Paraguayo Japonés is an educational center open to all interested residents of Asuncion. Established in 1988, the center offers a variety of dance, art, and music classes and workshops for people of all ages. It also is home to the Agustin Barrios Theater, which stages a number of music, dance, and theater performances throughout the year. The center was recently renovated; improvements include comfortable folding seats, a modern audio system, and a better lighting system.

Museo del Barro is one of Asuncion's most popular tourist attractions, and the building itself is architecturally stunning. Established in 1979, the museum showcases ceramics, contemporary paintings, pre-Columbian handicrafts, and interesting caricatures of famous people. It also displays figures of saints, some of which date back to the 16th century. There are several exhibits that feature the craft of Nanduti, better-known as spider web needlework. The museum store sells high-quality items made by local craftsmen. The museum is open Thursday- Saturday 9 am- 12 pm/ 3:30 pm- 8 pm.
