Antigua Casa Presidencial (Old Presidential Palace), San Salvador

The former Presidential Palace of El Salvador has long since moved on from its days as the official residence of the nation’s leaders. Today, it’s been reimagined as a space for art, culture, and historical reflection. Part of the San Jacinto Cultural and Recreational Complex, the building is managed by the Ministry of Culture and welcomes visitors to explore a place where key decisions once helped shape the country’s future.

As you walk through its halls, you’re stepping into history-spaces that once echoed with the voices of presidents and dignitaries. While much of the building now houses offices of the Ministry of Culture, several of the grand salons are still open to the public and are well worth a visit.

Admission is free, and the rooms you can explore include the elegant Oval Salon, the Hall of Honor, the richly decorated Blue Salon, and the Juan Manuel Rodríguez Salon, which once served as the presidential dining room. Each space offers a unique glimpse into El Salvador’s past, inviting visitors to reflect, learn, and connect with the country’s cultural legacy.
