Berthollet Statue, Annecy

In 1863, the statue of Berthollet was placed on the eastern side of the European Gardens, in honor of famous French chemist Claude Louis Berthollet. He was born in December of 1748 in Talloires, near Annecy. Berthollet was one of the first chemists to have documented the process of a reverse reaction. Today, a strong oxidizer Potassium Chlorate is also known as Berthollet’s Salt.
