Casa de los Campomanes (House of the Campomanes Family), Oviedo

Casa de los Campomanes (House of the Campomanes Family), Oviedo

Constructed in 1662 by architect Domingo Ruiz de Santayana, the House of the Campomanes Family belonged to an influential noble family. It is recognized as Oviedo's earliest example of a Baroque-style noble residence built by rural aristocracy. Its refined rectangular structure rises three stories high, clad in finely carved ashlar stone, and prominently features the shield of the Campomanes family above its entrance.

The facade features six wrought-iron balconies and two intricately carved wooden bay windows at each corner, added in the 18th century. These decorative windows, originally brought from Oxford by a previous owner, give the building its distinctive appearance. Beneath the left-hand window, on the lower floor, a small private chapel is located, elegantly framed by the oriel above.

Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1984, the building previously housed the local offices of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. Although not currently accessible, its exterior provides visitors with a vivid glimpse into the lifestyle of Asturias' 17th-century nobility and reflects Oviedo’s architectural heritage.
