Catedral Nuestra Senora del Nahuel Huapi (Cathedral Our Lady of Nahuel Huapi), San Carlos de Bariloche

The Cathedral Our Lady of Nahuel Huapi serves as the primary Catholic place of worship in the city. Situated on a spacious plot near Nahuel Huapi Lake and surrounded by gardens, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Bariloche, which is part of the Archdiocese of Bahía Blanca.

The cathedral's design was provided by architect Alejandro Bustillo in a Gothic Revival style with influences from French architecture. Construction took place between 1942 and 1944, and stained glass windows were added in 1947.

The Cathedral of Bariloche is a testament to the area's rich history, which dates back hundreds of years, echoing even more ancient times. Its construction resembles a Latin cross, with its orientation toward the east allowing sunlight to filter through the stained glass, creating captivating light patterns inside. Built from white stone, the cathedral's material lends it a sense of simplicity and reverence, reminiscent of early Christian architecture.
