Chiminike, Tegucigalpa
Chiminike is a children's museum opened in 2003. It focuses on teaching science and history to children.
The museum was planned in 1998 by the First Lady Mary Flake de Flores during Carlos Flores Facussé's presidency. The World Bank provided a $6 million loan for its construction. Building began in 2001 next to the Central Bank of Honduras, between the Fuerzas Armadas and Kuwait boulevards. Chiminike was inaugurated on October 29, 2003, and opened to the public on November 1, 2003.
As the first children's museum in Honduras, Chiminike offers interactive exhibits on various scientific topics, including anatomy, energy, physics, geography, environment, and sociology. It also features sections on Honduran history and culture, all designed to engage children in learning.
