Cuddy Family Midtown Park, Anchorage

Cuddy Family Midtown Park, Anchorage

The Cuddy Family Midtown Park in Anchorage, established in the early 1980s, has grown into a 15-acre hub for outdoor recreation, play, and community connection. Situated conveniently in midtown behind the Loussac Library, this park is a beloved green space offering a range of activities to engage both kids and adults. Over the years, multiple renovations have expanded its features, which now include a playground updated in 2013, paved trails, an amphitheater, a spacious picnic area, a speed-skating oval, and a promenade down to a lagoon populated by waterfowl and seagulls.

A true testament to Anchorage community spirit, the park has benefited from the ongoing support of volunteers and donors, including significant contributions from the Cuddy family, whose generosity helped enhance the park in 2000. The Anchorage Park Foundation, in partnership with local families and the Parks & Recreation Department, is currently developing the “Playground for All” initiative. This project will introduce an accessible playground with wheelchair ramps, transfer platforms, and ground-level features, ensuring that kids of all abilities can enjoy imaginative play.

In winter, the lagoon attracts hundreds of mallards that remain year-round, bringing a lively, natural element to the park. From spring to fall, remote-controlled boats dot the lagoon, while the amphitheater hosts performances, creating a true oasis within the bustling cityscape. For Anchorage residents and visitors alike, Cuddy Family Midtown Park offers a rare urban escape with its manicured terraces, secluded walking paths, and an array of activities that make it a vital gathering spot year-round.
