Florence Simmons Performance Hall at Holland College, Charlottetown
Situated on Holland College’s Prince of Wales Campus, the Florence Simmons Performance Hall is celebrated as one of Prince Edward Island’s most historically meaningful performance venues. Long before its current role, the auditorium served as the cultural and gathering heart of the former Prince of Wales College. In honoring that legacy, the hall underwent extensive renovations to preserve its Art Deco origins from 1932 while integrating modern performance technologies.
The hall bears the name of Florence Simmons, a distinguished alumna of Prince of Wales College. As a woman of both artistic and civic dedication, Florence was a pianist, organist, and artist. In her 100th year, she bequeathed a significant gift to Holland College-including her piano, sheet music, and funding to support the hall’s construction and the Florence Simmons Memorial Fund. Her life’s passions continue to resonate throughout the venue, whose interior details include her monogram-featured on ushers’ vests and music stand banners-as a lasting tribute.
Now a well-appointed theatre, the Florence Simmons Performance Hall offers a 303-seat auditorium, complete with a spacious stage and a sprung dance floor. This performance space serves as a key cultural hub in Charlottetown. It regularly hosts a wide spectrum of events-from musical performances and theatrical presentations to speaking engagements and community gatherings.
