Former Jutland Business School, Aarhus

The Aarhus University School of Business and Social Sciences (Aarhus BSS) is an integral part of Aarhus University in Denmark, representing a significant academic merger and development in business and social sciences education.

The origins of Aarhus BSS trace back to the late 19th century with the Jutland Business School, which provided business education to young individuals in Jutland. It wasn't until 1939, however, that the more formally recognized Aarhus School of Business was established, taking over the mantle from DJH as a prominent academic institution. This school initially operated out of a significant architectural piece in downtown Aarhus, designed by the renowned Danish architect Hack Kampmann in 1905, characterized by its distinctive white rendered façade and elegant granite striping.

The Aarhus School of Business experienced significant growth and in 1968 relocated to a new campus characterized by yellow and red brick buildings. This campus became a center for excellent research and teaching in the business field.

A pivotal development occurred in 2007 when the Aarhus School of Business merged with Aarhus University. This union was further consolidated in 2011 when the Aarhus School of Business and the Faculty of Social Sciences at Aarhus University combined to form the Aarhus University School of Business and Social Sciences. This merger created one of the largest business schools in Europe, boasting around 16,000 students and 737 academic staff, including 223 PhD students.

Aarhus BSS today stands as a testament to both historical progression and modern educational dynamics, continuing to offer extensive programs in business, economics, and trade, and contributing significantly to academic and professional fields both locally and internationally.
