Garter Lane Arts Center, Waterford

Over its four decades of operation, Garter Lane has amplified the creative pulse of the region, welcoming over 35,000 visitors annually. It champions a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines, from theatre, dance, and cinema to visual arts, music, and children’s programming.

Originally opened in 1984 in a former Georgian townhouse built between 1720–1740-once home to Quaker merchant Samuel Barker and later a library, bank, and social welfare office-it has evolved into a multidisciplinary centre that embraces history and the arts alike.

The centre's offerings are both rich and varied. Theatre lovers can enjoy productions in the 162-seat auditorium-featuring both local and international performances and even arthouse film screenings in 4K digital quality. Visual arts enthusiasts will appreciate the two dedicated gallery spaces, where contemporary exhibitions-often free to enter-regularly showcase dynamic local and national work. The centre also offers artist studios, a sprung dance floor, and workshops for budding creators.
