Griffiths Stadium, Saskatoon

Griffiths Stadium, Saskatoon

Griffiths Stadium is a prominent sports venue located on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon. Opened on June 23, 1967, it replaced an earlier stadium situated 200 meters to the east that had been in use since 1936. Today, Griffiths serves as the home of the Saskatchewan Huskies football team, a top competitor in the U Sports Canada West conference.

The stadium underwent major renovations in 2005, spurred by a $5 million donation from PotashCorp to help the university host the 2006 Vanier Cup. These upgrades included the installation of Next Generation FieldTurf, expanded seating (now 4,997 permanent seats), improved dressing rooms, and washroom facilities. For the Vanier Cup, temporary seating brought attendance to a sellout crowd of 12,567. The surrounding fields were renamed PotashCorp Park in recognition of the company’s support.

Beyond the Huskies, Griffiths Stadium regularly hosts the Saskatoon Valkyries of the Western Women's Canadian Football League-most recently for the 2023 WWCFL Championship-as well as occasional games by the Saskatoon Hilltops and various soccer teams. Over the years, it has also been the venue for several national college football matchups, including the Mitchell Bowl and Churchill Bowl.

In 2010, the Graham Huskies Clubhouse was expanded with new training facilities, meeting rooms, and a planned rooftop patio, funded by Ron and Jane Graham, and David Dubé and Heather Ryan. A year later, 1,174 premium NFL-style seats were added to the stadium, also thanks to Dubé and Ryan.

Griffiths Stadium is more than a field-it’s a cornerstone of university sports in Saskatchewan, blending historic legacy with cutting-edge athletic facilities.
