The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is located on the western side of the Memorial Park. It is just 4 miles out of the downtown area. If you are looking for a place to get away from the hassle of city life, this is your destination. It is located on 155 acres.
The Center provides education on the environment and the natural world to people who come to visit. It also plays an advocacy role for wild animals that live inside the city, often intervening when urban living threatens their existence. There are over 5 miles of trails to hike here. The location also has a beautiful Discovery Center which contains exhibits and interactive events for all ages. You may also want to visit the Nature Shop, which is filled with great gifts. For the garden lover, there is also a wildlife garden which is famous for teaching people how to attract hummingbirds.
