Mesa Historical Museum, Mesa

Mesa Historical Museum, Mesa

The Mesa Historical Museum was established in 1987. Its primary mission is to preserve the history of the city. The museum features a variety of exhibits, including a detailed history of Mesa, a replica of an early adobe one-room schoolhouse, and several galleries with rotating exhibits. Additionally, it houses a large collection of historic agricultural equipment.

The museum itself is housed in historically significant buildings. The main building, originally the Lehi School, was constructed between 1913 and 1914. An auditorium, added in the 1930s as part of a Works Progress Administration project, is also part of the museum complex. These buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 under the name "Lehi School."

In 2008, the museum introduced an exhibit titled "Play Ball: The Cactus League Experience," which highlights the history of Spring Training baseball in Arizona. This exhibit has grown and is now featured at various locations throughout Maricopa County.
