Museum Nuñez del Prado, La Paz

Museum Nuñez del Prado, La Paz

The Museum Nuñez del Prado in La Paz is a significant cultural institution that celebrates the legacy of the renowned Bolivian sculptor Marina Núñez del Prado. The museum is housed in a Neocolonial style residence that was once the home and workshop of Núñez del Prado. Located in the heart of the El Olivar Forest in San Isidro, this historic house was acquired in 1973 and has the distinction of being the first house in El Olivar declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

The museum features several permanent exhibition rooms and a temporary room, showcasing a vast collection of artistic cultural assets primarily from the Marina Núñez del Prado de Falcón Foundation. This foundation was established in 1994 by Núñez del Prado and her husband, the Peruvian writer Jorge Falcón, with the aim of preserving and displaying the sculptor's work and her husband's intellectual legacy.

After Núñez del Prado's death in 1995, her extensive and invaluable legacy was transferred to the Foundation. Since 2008, in partnership with the District Municipality of San Isidro, the Foundation has been safeguarding the House Museum, its art collection, and its documentary collection.

In addition to Núñez del Prado's works, the museum also boasts a collection of popular art comprising 137 pieces by Peruvian artisans, including master Mamerto Sánchez. Núñez del Prado was an avid collector of these works. The museum not only serves as a place to admire her artistic achievements but also functions as a center for research and preservation of art and culture.
