Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami
The Miami Museum of Contemporary Art was established to exhibit the works of well known modern artists, discover new talent and to teach visitors and art students about art and its heritage. It opened its doors in 1996.
The Miami Museum of Contemporary Art popularly known as MOCA is housed in a building designed by New York architects Gwathmey Seigel and Associates in conjunction with local architects Gelabert-Navia. The exhibition space in the museum covers an area of 23,000 square feet. It has a large permanent exhibition of works by well known American and international modern artists and hosts temporary themed exhibitions all year through.
The permanent collection at the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art consists of works of established and emerging contemporary artists. Some of the works featured are by John Baldessari, Alex Katz, Philippe Parreno and Anna Gaskel. The Museum also organizes outreach programs to make people of all ages understand and enjoy modern art. Besides themed temporary exhibitions, it organizes lectures by leading contemporary artists, organizes film screenings about art and artists and holds concerts within the premises. Special programs are also held for children and teenagers from time to time. The museum shop has art books, prints, artist designed original jewelry and gift articles with a contemporary art theme.
