Ocean Casino Resort, Atlantic City
Ocean Casino Resort, formerly known as Revel Casino Hotel Atlantic City, is a sprawling resort, hotel, and casino located on the northernmost edge of the Atlantic City Boardwalk in New Jersey. Covering 20 acres of prime oceanfront land and situated adjacent to the Showboat Hotel, the property is notable for its distinctive white sphere structure atop its roof, which is illuminated by LED technology capable of displaying an array of vibrant colors and designs.
Revel Casino Hotel opened on April 2, 2012, with high-end amenities but faced financial troubles, filing for bankruptcy twice. It closed on September 2, 2014, as the third of four Atlantic City casinos to shut that year. After failed sale attempts, Glenn Straub’s Polo North Country Club bought it for $82 million in 2015 but never reopened it. In January 2018, a new buyer acquired the property, relaunching it as Ocean Resort Casino on June 27, 2018, with a focus on revitalization.
Ocean Casino Resort boasts the tallest hotel tower in Atlantic City and one of the tallest structures in New Jersey, reaching a height of 710 feet. The project was designed by Arquitectonica, with BLT Architects serving as the executive architect for the majority of the facility. Tishman Realty & Construction, known for its work on The Borgata, managed the construction, while Montreal-based firm Scéno Plus contributed to the conceptualization and design of the casino floor, which spans an impressive 130,000 square feet.
Originally, the development was planned to include two hotel towers, but financial constraints forced the project to be scaled back to a single tower with 1,900 rooms. Construction faced delays due to funding issues, with work coming to a halt in 2009 before resuming in 2011 after new financing was secured. The resort opened with 1,399 rooms and quickly gained attention for its luxurious offerings.
Since reopening as Ocean Casino Resort, the property has regained its reputation as a premier gaming and hospitality destination, offering visitors a blend of high-end accommodations, vibrant nightlife, and top-tier entertainment along the Atlantic City Boardwalk.
