Padma Kanya College, Kathmandu

Padma Kanya College holds a significant place in the history of Nepal as the first institution of higher education dedicated to women. Founded on September 17, 1951, it is located in Bagbazar, Kathmandu, and was inaugurated by King Tribhuvan. Initially set up in the current location of Kanya School in Dillibazar, it now resides in its dedicated premises.

The college started with a focus on eight humanities subjects and has since expanded to include science streams. It offers an array of specialized laboratories for various disciplines within the humanities and sciences, including biochemistry, dress design, food and nutrition, psychology, geography, dance, and music, which are essential for providing practical knowledge alongside theoretical studies.

The campus boasts over 50 spacious classrooms and six large halls, such as Ratna Deep Bhawan and Maitri Bhawan's Sagarmatha and Danish halls, which are utilized for seminars and workshops, enhancing the learning experience.

Accommodation is provided in a new hostel capable of housing 200 students, primarily those from outside Kathmandu Valley. This hostel is equipped with standard accommodation facilities and offers hygienic food options at affordable prices under the supervision of a well-experienced lady hostel warden.

Padma Kanya College also features a comprehensive library with a large collection of textbooks, reference books, and electronic resources, which is supplemented by specialized mini-libraries and a Digital Resource Center (DRC) focusing on Women's Studies. This resource-rich environment supports a broad educational curriculum and fosters research and in-depth study.

Recently, the campus added a new cafeteria that serves a variety of seasonal, hygienic, and healthy foods at reasonable prices, ensuring students have access to nutritious meals.
