Palazzo Agonigi da Scorno (Agonigi da Scorno Palace), Pisa
The Agonigi da Scorno Palace in Pisa, dating back to the 12th century, was originally a medieval structure that underwent a transformation into a palace in the 17th century. It still retains elements of its initial design. The building suffered significant damage during World War II but was reconstructed in the 1960s.
The palace's exterior features two prominent Verrucana stone arches. Evidence suggests similar structures existed on higher levels, especially noted on the third floor. The restoration efforts included the rebuilding of dual mullioned windows on the first floor and a central pillar on the ground floor, which incorporates a semi-buried column topped with a valuable marble capital, likely the work of the sculptor Biduino.
Carlo Francesco Gabba, a former University of Pisa professor specialized in Philosophy of Law and later Civil Law, resided in this palace for three decades. His tenure is commemorated by a plaque on the building. In the early 1960s, Piero Sanpaolesi, initially in his capacity as the Superintendent of Monuments and later as a private professional, undertook significant restoration work on the palace.

Pisa Introduction Walking Tour
Pisa is known around the world for its Leaning Tower and as the birthplace of Galileo Galilei, often called the father of modern science. Those two associations alone would be enough to secure its place on the map. Yet the city's story stretches far beyond a tilted bell tower and one brilliant mind. It is a city shaped by the sea, by trade, and by centuries of quiet reinvention.
