Parc de la Colombiere (Colombiere Park), Dijon

Colombière Park is a magnificent public forest park. Spanning an impressive 33 hectares, the park dates back to the 17th century and is designed in the style of a French garden. It holds the status of a historical monument, receiving recognition for its cultural and historical significance since 1925.

Originally a private park, Colombière Park was created in 1672 on the banks of the Ouche River by Louis II de Bourbon-Condé, the Prince of Condé and Governor of Burgundy, who was often referred to as the Great Condé. Notably, the Via Agrippa, a Roman road from the 1st century connecting Langres to Chalon-sur-Saône, also passes through this park.

Colombière Park holds significant historical importance, as it was visited by Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie during their trip to Dijon on August 24, 1860. The park witnessed various periods of development and transformation throughout its history. In 1970, a large lawn was established at the park's end, featuring playgrounds for children and enclosures for farmyard and ornamental animals. This addition enhanced the recreational and educational aspects of the park, catering to the needs of visitors of all ages.

Today, Colombière Park stands as the largest park in Dijon and boasts an impressive collection of over 6,000 trees. The park showcases a diverse range of species, including more than ten different types of trees, such as lime trees, chestnut trees, oaks, hornbeams, ash trees, and maples. Additionally, it features over a hundred conifers, creating a delightful blend of landscapes. Lush lawns and meticulously maintained flower beds further enhance the park's beauty and provide a serene and tranquil environment for visitors to enjoy.
