Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, San Salvador

Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, San Salvador

The Saint Francis of Assisi Parish is celebrated for architectural grace dating back to the early 20th century. It has a symmetrical, neoclassical-inspired façade and is marked by two tall square towers, each with arched windows and a clock face, capped with pyramidal roofs. Between them rises a central gable, crowned by a cross.

The light-filled sanctuary features murals that honor Saint Francis of Assisi-known for his humility-and Archbishop Óscar Romero, remembered for his role in social justice and faith in El Salvador’s history. Worshippers appreciate the church for its smoothly organized baptism ceremonies, praised for their efficiency and minimal paperwork. The parish hosts regular Masses, as well as retreats and youth gatherings.
