Yangon Chinatown, Yangon

Yangon's Chinatown, also known as Tayoke Tan is located west of the Sule Pagoda in Downtown Yangon. The bustling 19th Street is the heart of this vibrant area. Chinatown was established in the 1850s when the British expanded the city, then called Rangoon.

This area offers a variety of restaurants, gold and jewelry stores, game centers, cyber cafés, clothing shops, and mini-markets. Street food vendors serve steaming dishes, snacks, fruits, and flowers, delighting both locals and visitors. Seasonal fruits include mangoes, durians, mangosteen, pomelos, apples, tangerines, grapes, pears, avocados, lychees, pineapples, rambutan, plums, and various types of bananas.

This part of the city, home to many Chinese residents, has become a bustling business and tourist hub. During Chinese New Year, the area is especially lively with red decorations everywhere. A walk through Yangon’s Chinatown offers an amazing experience.
