Yui Rail, Naha

Yui Rail, Naha

The Yui Rail, also known as the Okinawa Monorail, is a crucial transportation system. With a daily ridership of approximately 350,000 passengers, it was introduced to address the historical challenges of expensive public transportation and growing traffic congestion in the region.

In the past, Okinawa Prefecture had railway and trolley lines, but they succumbed to financial difficulties and ceased operations in 1933 when bus services became dominant. Fast forward to 2003, the Okinawa Monorail emerged as the first rail line established in Okinawa after World War II. This system seamlessly connects key business areas, government facilities, and popular tourist destinations within the city, starting from Naha Airport and passing through Downtown Naha, Naha Bus Terminal, and ending near Shuri Castle.

The entire journey on this 27-minute route is served by trains consisting of two cars, each accommodating up to 65 passengers, allowing a total of 165 passengers per train. The monorail track is elevated between 8 to 20 meters above the ground, enabling trains to reach a maximum speed of 65 km/h, offering a convenient and efficient mode of transportation for both locals and visitors alike. Unfortunately, specific fare information is not available at this time.
