Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, is a beautiful city – famous for its whiskies, castle, the Edinburgh Fringe festival and being the birthplace of Harry Potter. It also has more trees per head of population than any other city in the UK. The city combines medieval architecture in the old town with Georgian architecture in the new town and does it so perfectly, that for this reason, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has an eventful history, wonderful legends and myths galore, shopping, dining, art and culture.

I decided to take my daughter to Edinburgh for her end of GCSEs treat. At the time, we were not allowed to travel outside of the UK and I thought it would be a great opportunity to go and see Scotland. Flights to Edinburgh from Bristol are very frequent and cheap (sometimes under £20) because of the high demand. The flight takes only 1hr 15mins.

Hotels are expensive and cost at least £200 per night if you want to stay in the centre. But if you are happy to be slightly further out, you can find hotels for around £100 per night.
