A Boston Walkabout, Boston, Massachusetts

It is a mildly curious quirk of fate that I haven’t really been to Boston. While we were young and in the process of building our American Dream, we traveled sparingly and almost exclusively within the US. Boston was our “bad luck” destination. On two separate occasions in the 90s, we planned extended-weekend trips to Beantown, only to run into unforeseen health-related problems just days before each trip, necessitating cancellations. The third occasion never came around; we got the taste of overseas travel and started to prioritize it in most instances, with very rare exceptions.

College reconnaissance treks and short business trips offered me a few passing glimpses of Boston over the years. That I did not have a single photograph tagged with the city name in my archives is the most precise gauge of the amount of exploration I attempted on those brief visits. In late April and early June of this year, I found myself in Boston again on business for the first time in about a decade. Just as I did in Dallas a year ago, I used the after-work hours to wander around the Downtown and the Waterfront area a bit in the late-afternoon daylight.
