Valle de Antón (or simply called El Valle) is a small town nestled inside the crater of a large dormant volcano. I originally planned to stay a few days… and ended up spending 8 unforgettable nights here. Hiking, cycling, soaking in hot springs, spotting frogs and birds, Valle de Antón quickly became one of my favorite places in Panama! If you’re planning a visit (or thinking about it), here’s everything you need to know for visiting el Valle de Antón.

Valle de Antón is located about 600 meters above sea level, which means cooler temperatures than the coast. Expect green mountains, flower-filled gardens, thousands of birds and a peaceful small-town atmosphere.

- From Panama City: The easiest and most direct way is by local bus from the Albrook Bus Terminal. Look for buses heading to San Carlos, Penonomé, or Chitré, and ask the driver to drop you off at the turnoff for Valle de Antón (El Valle). From there, it’s a short taxi or local bus ride into town.
