Located along the plateau of Phnom Bokor, Bokor is the newest city in Kampot and in Southern Cambodia. While a relative newcomer, it has already amassed a population of 23,000 people as of 2021.

The area of Bokor was initially developed as a hill station during the French colonial period circa the early 20th century, thanks to its cool climate and lovely view overlooking towards the Gulf of Thailand. While at the time it was developed for the occupying French soldiers and it has since been abandoned, one can still find a collection of French colonial buildings atop the hill station.

Built in the year of 1924 by King Sisowath, this pagoda is the highest Buddhist temple in Cambodia. It served as a spiritual sanctuary for the Cambodian royalty who visited the mountain to escape the humidity of the plains.

Also known as the “Five Ships Pagoda”, its name comes from five massive, ship-shaped rocks nearby that were formed by natural erosion over thousands of years. According to local legend, they were once real ships belonging to a mythical prince named Preah Thong, which turned to stone after he married a Naga princess. ......
