Most people who know of Brunei Darussalam are at least somewhat familiar with the fact that the nation is driven to its economic miracle through its booming industry of oil and gas.

Less people are familiar with the fact that Seria is the very town where oil was first originally struck in Brunei back in the year of 1929. Up to this day, it remains the pivotal centre for the country’s oil and gas industry.

As such, anyone who is at least somewhat interested in the beguiling history of the country’s rapid industrialisation and economic miracle (which remains one of Brunei Darussalam’s most enduring stories) should definitely pay a visit to Seria.

The town’s name, Seria, was actually derived from the name of a river where oil was originally discovered. Back in the days, this area was originally a mangrove swamp surrounded by an oil field.
