The festivities take place on the night of each full moon throughout the year, with the first full moon celebration of the new year considered the most impressive.
At dusk, the traffic stops and the lights go out, transforming Hoi An’s Old Town into a fairytale. Only a few shops nearby leave their elaborate lanterns glowing in the dark.
This is the time to head towards the An Hoi bridge. All along the banks of the Hoai River, locals bring out candle-lit lanterns to the streets.
