I love Lyme Regis. It’s one of the UK’s most charming seaside towns with its Georgian houses, the fish and chip shops and the famous Cobb wall curving around the picturesque harbour.

But there’s so many more things to do in Lyme Regis than admire its charm. This small town on the UK’s Dorset coast is one of the best places in the world to go fossil hunting. It’s also famous as the setting for both the book and the film of The French Lieutenant’s Woman and for the jungle-like atmosphere of the Undercliff.

Lyme Regis is famous for its fossils and fossil hunting is one of the best things to do in Lyme Regis. Even the lamp posts are shaped like ammonites. It’s part of the 96-mile Jurassic Coast, one of the best places in the world to find fossils. The fossils here are up to 190 million years old and from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
