Every summer, I find myself searching for places that feel like a real escape without spending an entire day getting there. Cres and Lošinj turned out to be exactly that.

Just 3.5 hours from Ljubljana, including the ferry ride, we traded city streets for crystal-clear water, seaside promenades, fresh seafood, and some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve seen in Croatia.

The best part? It still feels a little less crowded and more authentic than some of Croatia’s better-known islands.

One of the biggest surprises about Cres is how easy it is to reach from Ljubljana. Our journey took around 3.5 hours in total, including the ferry crossing.

We chose the route through Brestova, which is probably the most straightforward option if you’re driving from Slovenia.
