Ancien Hôpital Général, Carcassonne

The Ancient General Hospital was the first health centre of the city of Carcassonne established in 1648. It became the main hospital, which continued to have the same role, when in 1686 Louis XIV demanded the creation of such an establishment in all the cities of the kingdom. In the second half of the eighteenth century, the present facade was built with its monumental gate and the statue of St. Vincent de Paul. After the Revolution it became Hospice, and nowadays the building is the residence centre of the Old Bridge.
