Ashes Bar and Restaurant, Dingle

Ashes Bar and Restaurant, Dingle

Ashes Bar and Restaurant, located on Main Street in Dingle, has been a familiar spot since 1849. It started as a store selling fabrics and had a license to sell drinks, but over time, it turned into a beloved pub. The Ashe family has been running it for generations, starting with James G Ashe who married into the family in 1929 and took over the bar. Now, his grandson Thomas and Thomas's wife Sinead keep the tradition alive, making sure Ashes stays a family business that respects its long history.

The inside of Ashes feels like stepping back in time, especially to the 1960s, with its old-fashioned counter and wood panelling. It's a comfortable place to hang out, with areas to sit that range from a front area with tables to a back room with an old sofa. There’s even a photo of Gregory Peck, a famous actor and relative who used to visit, which adds a bit of star quality. The bar also became a favorite spot for the actors of "Ryan’s Daughter" when they were in Dingle, adding to its interesting background.

Sinead has recently updated the food menu, focusing on seafood dishes that are as good as what you'd find in top fish restaurants but at more affordable prices. The menu also includes options for vegetarians and some really good homemade desserts. With its mix of history, family ties, and new food choices, Ashes Bar and Restaurant remains a top spot for both locals and tourists in Dingle.
