B. H. Campbell House, Wichita

B. H. Campbell House, Wichita

The B. H. Campbell House, sometimes called Campbell Castle, is a historic mansion built in 1888. Designed to look like a Scottish castle, the house stands out with its stone walls, tall turret, and castle-like roof. It was built by Burton Harvey Campbell, a local businessman who wanted to make a bold statement on the banks of the Little Arkansas River.

Stepping inside, the house features detailed woodwork, stained glass from Europe, hand-carved staircases, and antique fireplaces. Many original details remain, giving visitors a sense of what life was like for a wealthy family in Wichita during the late 1800s. Spanning approximately 14–28 rooms depending on the era and configuration, it originally housed the Campbell family until their passing in the early 1900s. Now, it operates as a small hotel and event venue.

Allowing visitors to stay overnight or attend small gatherings surrounded by its historic elegance, the Campbell House offers a chance to admire late-19th-century Victorian Romanesque architecture and to experience the ambiance of a bygone era from within.
