The Monument to Bibisara, Kyrgyzstan’s first great ballerina, is a celebrated landmark in Bishkek, located near the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theatre. This tribute honors her immense contributions to the arts, as both a performer and educator, making her a cultural icon in Kyrgyzstan.

Born on September 15, 1926, in the village of Vorontsovka (now Tash-Dobo), Bibisara Beyshenalieva trained at the prestigious Vaganova Ballet Academy in Leningrad under the legendary Agrippina Vaganova. She made her professional debut at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre before returning to Kyrgyzstan, where she became the prima ballerina of the Kyrgyz ballet after her performance as Cholpon in the national ballet Cholpon (Morning Star) in 1944. Her artistry showcased a blend of technical brilliance, expressive depth, and emotional authenticity, earning her national and international acclaim.

Bibisara was not only a dancer but a dramatic actress, renowned for embodying the lives of her characters on stage. Her repertoire, celebrated for its diversity and artistry, remains part of the “golden treasury” of world ballet. Through her work, she promoted Kyrgyz ballet on international stages, bringing attention to the country's rich cultural heritage.

In her later years, Bibisara dedicated herself to training the next generation of dancers, shaping the Kyrgyz Ballet School, and serving as a professor. Her influence endures in the form of her students, many of whom perform on stages worldwide. Her legacy is immortalized on the 5 som note and through this monument, symbolizing her lifelong dedication to the arts.

Bibisara Beyshenalieva passed away on May 10, 1973, but her contributions to ballet and Kyrgyz culture continue to inspire. Her statue stands as a poignant reminder of her trailblazing journey and the artistic heights she achieved, paving the way for future generations of performers.
