Blandford Nature Center, Grand Rapids

Blandford Nature Center, Grand Rapids

A paradise for outdoor lovers, Blandford Nature Center offers 264 acres of forests, streams, and meadows just minutes from downtown Grand Rapids. Originally part of the Collins family farm, this land has evolved into a vibrant hub for environmental education, conservation, and recreation. What started as a small nature preserve in the 1960s, thanks to the vision of Dr. Mary Jane Dockeray, has now grown into an expansive nature center with four miles of trails, an organic farm, historic structures, and a thriving wildlife education program.

Visitors can explore diverse natural areas, hike scenic trails, or observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Blandford also operates as a wildlife rehabilitation center, caring for injured animals and providing a permanent home for those unable to return to the wild. These "wildlife ambassadors" play a key role in the center’s educational programs, which engage thousands of students and families each year. Indoors, guests can enjoy interactive exhibits and learn about local ecosystems.

For families, the Blandford Farm is a highlight. Beyond its vegetable gardens, it’s home to chickens, goats, and sheep, offering hands-on experiences in sustainable agriculture. Seasonal festivals, like the Fall Harvest Fair in September and October and the sugarbush season in March, add to the year-round appeal.

Blandford Nature Center is a community-driven nonprofit, dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship. Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, a chance to connect with local wildlife or an educational adventure for kids, Blandford offers a perfect escape into nature-all within city limits.
