Cataraqui Cemetery, Kingston

Cataraqui Cemetery is a historical burial ground that has been in existence since 1850, predating the formation of the Canadian Confederation. Covering an expansive 91 acres of land in a serene rural setting, this cemetery boasts a picturesque landscape with rolling wooded terrain, tranquil ponds, and meandering watercourses. Within its grounds, over 46,000 individuals have found their final resting place, including numerous notable Canadians. Among them lies Canada's first prime minister, John A. Macdonald, making his burial site of significant historical importance. Both the Macdonald family gravesite and the entire cemetery have earned the distinction of being designated National Historic Sites of Canada.

Cataraqui Cemetery serves as the eternal home for a diverse array of individuals, from politicians and businessmen to humanitarians and authors. Additionally, it holds a special section reserved by Queen's University for those who have chosen to contribute their remains to education and research. This cemetery is also a solemn reminder of Canada's wartime history, containing the war graves of 61 service personnel from World War I and 84 from World War II.
