Centro Paraguayo Japones (Japanese Paraguayan Center), Asuncion

Founded in 1988, the Japanese Paraguayan Center (Centro Paraguayo Japonés) in Asunción is a vibrant cultural and educational hub open to residents of all backgrounds. As the first comprehensive institution for social and cultural education in Paraguay, the center has played a crucial role in fostering integration and cooperation between the Paraguayan and Japanese communities.

The center offers a wide range of classes and workshops across disciplines such as dance, music, visual arts, computer science, languages, and physical fitness. With programs tailored for children as young as three, as well as teens, adults, and seniors, the center ensures accessibility by adapting schedules to suit the availability of its students. In particular, adults aged 60 and over can benefit from free courses in English, choir, computing, and gymnastics, while other self-organized senior activities like Ñanduti embroidery, Paraguayan dance, and painting are also available for a fee.

At the heart of the center is the Agustín Barrios Theater, which hosts year-round performances in music, dance, and drama. Following a recent renovation, the theater now boasts modern amenities such as comfortable folding seats, updated lighting, and an advanced audio system, enhancing the audience experience.

More than just a place for classes, the Japanese Paraguayan Center serves as a key meeting point for cultural exchange and community-building, offering a space where educational growth, artistic expression, and cross-cultural understanding flourish side by side.
