Charles Krutch Park, Knoxville
Situated in the heart of downtown Knoxville, Charles Krutch Park is a picturesque park that honors a German immigrant family of artists, musicians, and renowned writer Joseph Wood Krutch. The park was founded in 1981 after Charles Krutch, the last surviving member of the family, willed his property and over one million dollars to the city to create a natural space. He made his career as a professional photographer and devoted his retirement years to gardening.
One of the park's highlights is a charming water feature that includes a small waterfall and a flowing stream. Visitors can take advantage of the picnic tables provided to enjoy this feature. The park is adjacent to Krutch Park Extension and Market Square.
Krutch Park Extension is an expansion of Charles Krutch Park that extends across an alley between Union Avenue and Clinch Avenue, eventually touching Gay Street in the 500 blocks. It offers water play fountains, benches, shady trees, and an open space perfect for play.
In addition to Krutch Park Extension, Charles Krutch Park is located next to Market Square, which features a diverse range of entertainment, shopping, and dining options. Market Square has been a popular destination for Knoxville residents since the 1860s, offering activities such as outdoor concerts and movies, Shakespeare on the Square, the Farmers' Market, and the Tennessee Woman Suffrage Memorial statue. The square also includes picnic tables, benches, shade trees, and water play fountains.
