Chiesa di San Giuseppe, Livorno

Designed by architect Joseph Florentine Puin, the Church of St. Joseph was built at the beginning of the 19th century during a period of architectural development and innovation in Livorno. The Grand Duke of Tuscany himself ordered the parish church to be erected. The church has a vibrant history. It was once used as a hospital to deal with violent outbreaks of cholera. It stood strong during the Austrian invasion, although it suffered some damage to its walls. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was the most loved and visited church in town.
